When the U.S. House of Representatives tried slipping a public land sale into their budget bill earlier this spring, it sparked a storm of protest. That version was ultimately stripped from the final legislation, thanks to major pushback from conservation groups, outdoor industry leaders, and even members of Congress from both parties.

But now, the idea is back—and the Senate version is much larger.
