Behind the Vise is a grassroots initiative from The Fly Box LLC, created to support American-based fly tyers through visibility, community, and education.
We’re here for the folks tying at their kitchen tables, the ones who want to grow, connect, and hone their craft. We aim to build a space where learning is free, creativity is celebrated, and stories are shared.

When possible, we help cover material costs and connect tyers, with brands that care ensuring that passion, not privilege, fuels the next generation of American fly tying.​

From donations to delivery — here's how we support American-made fly tyers through Behind the Vise.
Donations
We gather support from fly shops, brands, and generous backers who believe in American craftsmanship. Their contributions fuel every package we send and every story we tell.

Applications
Fly tyers submit a short application detailing their craft, needs, and story. We review these quarterly and select makers based on creativity, commitment, and circumstance.

Assistance
We provide assistance through exposure, brand partnerships, and—when possible—materials or financial support. Selections are based on craft, need, and story.
